Book Tag Monday Vol 1

Book-Tag Monday, Vol. 1

Today, as a sort of christening of our new scheduled posts, we're going to do the Reading Habits Tag!  Created by BethJune327, find the video and her channel here!  It's traditionally done by booktubers (youtubers who talk about books), but when have we ever gone with the grain?  Let's get started!

Question #1: Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

Kam: I have two places in my home, currently, where I enjoy reading more than others.  1) In my bed with my massive blanket around my whole body, or outside on our porch swing.
Amber: I prefer wrapped up in my bed as well, on my oversized chair, or in my bathtub... anywhere I can get a quite moment, really.

Question #2: Bookmark or a random piece of paper?

Kam: I have a lot of bookmarks that I use sometimes, but most of the time it's either a Pokemon card or the bank slips I get when I make deposits.
Amber: If I remember to grab a bookmark when I start a book then I use a bookmark, otherwise I just use whatever's lying around me when I pause.

Question #3: Can you stop reading anytime you want or do you have to stop at a certain page, chapter, part, ect.?

Kam: I don't have to stop reading, let's say, every 2 chapters, or whatever.  But if I'm getting ready to be done for the day, or for the moment, I do have to stop at the nearest chapter.  It can't be in the middle of a page.
Amber: I'm the same as Kam. I can't stop in the middle of a chapter, drives me nutso.

Question #4: Do you eat or drink while reading?

Kam: If I'm reading an ebook, I can eat something.  But if it's a physical book, I don't trust myself with my shakey hands to not drop something on the pages.
Amber: I usually drink coffee or tea while I'm reading but usually I don't eat. I'm too occupied.
This is what happens when I try to watch TV and read

Question #5: Can you read while listening to music/watching TV?

Kam: I can't.  I get too concerned with what they're singing/saying to concentrate on the book.  But that being said, if it's a song that I've heard countless time, I can put that through my headphones and read just fine.  for instance, I read The 5th Wave while listening to Imagine Dragon's CD, just because I've listened to it so many times.
Amber: I really can't. I mean, I'm better than I used to be and sometimes I'll put on a playlist of soft acoustic songs and listen to those, but in general, if I had to choose, I'd pick no sounds at all.

Question #6: One book at a time, or several at once?

Kam: I have strict "one-heart-breaker-at-a-time" at a time policy.  Any more than one book at a time and I get confused about what's happening.
Amber: I really TRY to stick to one book at a time, and I usually succeed.

Question #7: Reading at home or everywhere?

Kam: EVERYWHERE.  I've taken books into some pretty weird places, to be honest.
Amber: Anywhere and Everywhere. Bathrooms, Offices, in my car in traffic... lol, I really don't mind where I read.

Question #8: Reading out loud or silently in your head?

Kam: In my head.  If there's a sentence or a paragraph I'm having a heard time making sense of then I'll read it out loud, or even act it out.
Amber: In my head. Unless I'm like "OMG listen to this!"

Question #9: Do you read ahead or skip pages?

Kam: I do and I hate myself every time for it!  It's not on purpose though.  It's only if I'm looking ahead to see where the chapter ends, then I can't keep my eyes from reading a bit. Rinse, repeat.
Amber: I do. Same as Kam.. sometimes I'm like "huh wonder where this chapter ends" and I look down to the bottom and see the cliffhanger and I'm like... "argh......" and if it's a super crazy descriptive setting that just goes on and on and on... I skim it.

Question #10: Breaking the spine or keeping it new?

Kam: When I was younger I was really rough with my books, and that's mainly because I didn't know any better.  But now that covers and spines are becoming more and more beautiful (and they're freakishly expensive and I have to buy my own books now), I spare their spiney life.
Amber: If it's a paperback I prefer to break in the spine just so I can bend my pages back better but I don't go crazy with this. I don't want the spine all cracked and damaged. My books are my babies.

Question #11: Do you write in books?

Kam: Only if I want to go to prison and/or bring shame to my family.
Amber:  I underline sometimes if I'm reading a book for review but write in? No. Negative. Absolutely not.

Yay!  So this was fun.  This is gonna happen every Monday, forseeably, that is.  If there's a tag you want us to do, sound off in the comments.  If you say nothing, we're assuming you love it so much you have no words, and we'll do it anyway.  Stay tuned for Wednesday's scheduled post to see what we're reading!
