A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies: A YALLfest Review
So, as promised, I'm posting some goodies from the authors that I'll be running into and bumping elbows with at YALLfest in like two weeks! (Eeeep, fangirling) The next on my list is A Beautiful Dark by Jocelyn Davies: Enjoy!
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I knew little to nothing about it when I opened to the first page and I kinda enjoyed not knowing what the premise was. But for the sake of assuming that some of you don't enjoy that, we will say that this book is about creatures similar to angels. We will call them angels for the sake of time... but mostly about a girl who's stuck between who she used to be, who she thought she was, who she really is, and who's she supposed to become. Talk about confusing!
Or is it really? I feel like every girl (and guy) goes through a point in their life where they can connect to this read. We all kinda feel like we will never amount to what someone expects of us, or we aren't who we've always been taught we were. But like the main character, Skye, (Fun fact: also my college roommate's name) we also come to realize that it doesn't really matter what anyone else thinks. We are who we are. We are who we decide to be, not who anyone else decides we should be.
This book was impossible to put down after Skye learns more about her history. The ending leaves you craving more and the boys make you want your own personal angel love triangle. I highly recommend this read! I can't wait to check out the sequel! (and okay, if you don't like angel books this probably isn't your thing, but I love them.. and it was right up my alley!)
