Review:
I wasn’t sure what to expect going into this book, but it was recommended by several friends, and I ended up loving this book! For those fangirls, fan-fic lovers, writers alike, this book is for you (and really for everyone)! Rowell was able to bring in ‘the feels’ and fangirl terms we all use on a daily basis.
One of the things I love about Rainbow Rowell’s writing, is that she really brings these characters to life and tumblr_mxtckwO5G61r181heo1_500you’re able to relate to them on a personal level (which I also think Rainbow put a lot of herself into the main character, Cath, too).  Her characters are perfectly imperfect, and I found myself falling in love with them! It’s nice to see an author write about the faults in a person that make them who they are, rather than have everyone be perfect and beautiful – because lets face it: the world is not perfect and not everyone is beautiful. One of my favorite parts in this book was the ‘emergency dance party’ to feel better about whatever was going on.
Emergency-Dance-PartyAnother thing that I thought was awesome, was how Rainbow wrote about writing – fan-fiction to be specific. Cath is commited to her fan-fic of Simon Snow, which we are allowed to also read! Instead of getting wrapped up into just one story, you get two! The whole Simon Snow world reminded me a little bit of Harry Potter with different name changes, but it was overall great to read as well. Though I did find myself skimming through the Simon Snow excerpts because I wanted to get back to the main story.
The way that Rowell ended this book was just enough. While some authors feel the need to overload on the ending of a book, it was nice to see a simple ending that left you content.
I highly recommend this book! It’s a great ‘stand alone’ book and would also be great for someone who’s looking for a book to get over a ‘book hangover’.
Synopsis:
Cath is a Simon Snow fan.
Okay, the whole world is a Simon Snow fan . . .
But for Cath, being a fan is her life — and she’s really good at it. She and her twin sister, Wren, ensconced themselves in the Simon Snow series when they were just kids; it’s what got them through their mother leaving. Reading. Rereading. Hanging out in Simon Snow forums, writing Simon Snow fan fiction, dressing up like the characters for every movie premiere.

Cath’s sister has mostly grown away from fandom, but Cath can’t let go. She doesn’t want to.
Now that they’re going to college, Wren has told Cath she doesn’t want to be roommates. Cath is on her own, completely outside of her comfort zone. She’s got a surly roommate with a charming, always-around boyfriend, a fiction-writing professor who thinks fan fiction is the end of the civilized world, a handsome classmate who only wants to talk about words . . . And she can’t stop worrying about her dad, who’s loving and fragile and has never really been alone.
