Type of Book: Dystopian / Young Adult

Synopsis:
Chemical warfare has obliterated most of the world, including America, and the survivors have turned into feral beasts, save one colony, Antius, the last remnant of civilization. Seventeen-year-old Cori (aka Citizen 1206) only longs for wide open spaces and freedom. But Antius has no use for such things, just mindless drones to serve in a place with walls, fences, and laws. A lot of laws, which Cori constantly breaks. So she’s spent years plotting her escape, which is the only thing that will save her from the colony’s deranged leader, Nathan. She isn’t looking to be a hero, and she certainly isn’t looking to fall in love, but she just might do both.

Review:
After reading other dystopian books such as The Hunger Games or Divergent, I was kind of skeptical because a lot of them seem so similar in some ways but this book definitely fits into its own category!

The book starts off right in the middle of all the action so I felt like I had to play catch up a little and there's a lot of information to take in. And when I say action - I mean A LOT of action. This book definitely kept me on my toes the whole time. This book will make your heart pound and you'll want to keep turning that page to find out what happens!

Sometimes you can kind of guess what events are going to take place next, and that was not the case for Sovereign! One of the things that I LOVED about this book was that there were so many twists and turns you just did NOT expect.
I'm not going to lie, there's a lot of characters that I wanted to know more, and they just end up dying - which just caught me off guard every. single. time!
I was very skeptical of Dylan at first because there were a lot of mixed signals that just screamed 'don't trust him' but he's easily one of my favorites! I also really loved Cori too! She was head strong and strived so hard to make things right. She's definitely committed to finish every goal she sets for herself. It was refreshing to read through her point of view and even though she finds herself in A LOT of crappy situations, she never pity's herself! She just puts things behind her to get the work done.

Needless to say, I was thoroughly impressed by this book and I can not WAIT to read the next book in the series - The Offering.
