Review: The Elite
The Elite by Kiera Cass
The Elite is the second book in the The Selection series by Kiera Cass. If you missed my review for the first, The Selection, you can read it HERE.
As I said in my first review, I really thought I wouldn't be a fan of these books and I was so totally wrong. So if you don't think princes and royalty and girls named America are your thing, I urge you to try this series out.
America Singer is her own person, and unlike most of the girls put into the palace to vie for Prince Maxon's love - she's not afraid to be that person. She's not been raised to know what happens in a palace and what is socially acceptable behavior for a royal. She's learning, but she definitely puts her own twist on things.
At the end of The Selection we find America stuck between an unexpected new resident at the palace. Someone from her past who she had convinced herself was in the past to stay. She went to the palace for all the wrong reasons - for money for her family mostly, and because she was pressured to - but in The Elite we see America actually falling for Maxon. Something neither of them ever thought would happen. She goes from a solid friend with a solid plan to a girl with a serious, serious choice that needs to be made - a choice that could (and probably will) change her life forever.
Add to that choice that she's competing with other girls, specifically one girl, who actually could give her a fight for what she wants the most. Does she even know what she wants the most? I think she does. I think it's Maxon. While we all love her past flame (omitting name here to keep this spoiler free) and we want him to be happy - for me, it's pretty clear that the fire burns with Maxon. Their love starts as one from friendship, and from honesty. That kind of love is hard to squash.
There's a pretty painful goodbye near the end of the book that had my sobbing at 3 am. Seriously though. This series is going to be the death of me.
The part that sucks about this book? WE STILL DON'T KNOW WHAT HAPPENS! But it's okay. The One (the final book in this series) releases next week. HOLY CRAP I AM SO EXCITED.
I highly suggest you high tail your butt to the bookstore (or to your ebook store) and get caught up with a quickness. (WOW that was Southern.)
Stay tuned for our final review + Character Spotlights. Who would you choose to play these characters on screen? Let me know on twitter, or in the comments below!
