Zoe Whittaker is living a
charmed life. She is the beautiful young wife to handsome, charming
Wall Street tycoon Henry Whittaker. She is a member of Manhattan’s
social elite. She is on the board of one of the city’s most prestigious
philanthropic organizations. She has a perfect Tribeca penthouse in the
city and a gorgeous lake house in the country. The finest wine, the most
up-to-date fashion, and the most luxurious vacations are all at her
fingertips.
What no one knows is that five years ago, Zoe’s life was in danger. Back then, Zoe wasn’t Zoe at all. Now her secrets are coming back to haunt her. As the past and present collide, Zoe must decide who she can trust before she—whoever she is—vanishes completely.
The Vanishing Year combines the classic sophistication of Ruth Rendell and A.S.A. Harrison with the thoroughly modern flair of Jessica Knoll. Told from the point-of-view of a heroine who is as relatable as she is enigmatic, The Vanishing Year is an unforgettable new novel by a rising star of the genre.

I have always been a huge fan of mysteries. I’m pretty sure CLUE was
my favorite game growing up. If only I could get my husband to play that now! I
could literally watch crime dramas all day long. There’s just something about
watching things unravel and trying to solve the puzzle before all the pieces
are given to you. So when Simon & Schuster contacted us to review THE
VANISHING YEAR by Kate Moretti, I jumped at the chance. I dove in to the book
head first. I read the synopsis when the initial request was sent but there I was months
later remembering nothing about what I was about to start reading. I think I liked the not knowing. This book had me
intrigued before I even finished the first chapter. It was a little slow in the
beginning but once it picked up, BOY DID IT PICK UP!!! Wow. I couldn’t turn the
pages fast enough. You know how sometimes you’ll read a mystery and you've already
mapped out in your head how it’s all going to end? Yeah… this book is not like that. I was over
three-quarters of the way through the book and still didn’t know how things were going to play out.
“To move on, to continue to live, I had
been forced to cleave my life with a giant chasm that held Hilary on one side
and Zoe on the other. There was no bridge back, not in my mind.”
In order to survive, Zoe had to abandon one life and start another.
She’s happy now. She has a loving husband who provides for her in a way she’s
never had in her life. Henry, ever the loving husband. Dotes on Zoe, shower’s
her with gifts, and surprises her with exotic getaways. To her “he’s nearly perfect. But is he
good?” Then all of a sudden strange things start happening and Zoe fears the
worst; That her past life has come back to haunt her. A life she thought she’d
left behind. Kate Moretti creates so many suspects as the
story unravels. There’s the people from her past, a reporter who’s doing a
piece on her charity work, her previous coworker and best friend, their house
keeper, the list goes on. I had suspicions. Oooooh did I have suspicions. I’ll
keep those to myself and let you make your own theories as you read. Sometimes,
the most obvious choice isn’t always the right choice.
“Everyone wants to be loved for who they
are, even if we keep our true selves locked up and hidden.”
This was my first book my Kate Moretti. I absolutely loved it! What a
great introduction to her work. Now I want to read ALL THE THINGS. If you’re a
fan of a good mystery/suspense that will keep you at the edge of your seat and guessing
until the very end, make sure you grab a copy of THE VANISHING YEAR.
